Who Doesn't like to jog/run for cardio??

I'm sorry but I'm one of those gals who absolutely detests running/jogging. DH however, is a natural runner. He cranks out 5 miles and barely gets his heart rate to 120. I get lectured that running is the only way to jump start losing my meno-pot.

I like to put the treadmill on a pgm that alternates between flat, 10.5 incline at 4.2 mph with a 2 minute jog at 6 MPH. I get my heart rate in the 140s for 30 min. According to the readout, I burned about 280 calories.

Can anyone give me any guidance as to how to get the needed cardio results without resorting to running/jogging for 30 min?

Thanks.

Hate to tell you, but I've tried most forms of exercise and running is the only one that I get real results from. I hated it too, I'm not at all a natural runner. But I started slowly, mile and walk, 2 miles and walk, I now vary between 3 and 5. I still don't love it, but I do enjoy it a lot more. In an hour jog, I burn about 600 calories.

I was going to a really good hydro job class at our Y, but I've never seen anything like it before. It was short laps across the deep end of the pool, with kicking at the wall in between. It definately got your heart rate up, but sitll didn't feel quite the same rush after it as running.

But, I've also figured out in the last year that eating is/was the biggest issue for my weight loss! Once I cut down (with WW) I was able to really loose my stomach.

Good luck!!!

I hate running too! I don't do much of it. Once in a while I will go for a run outside, and I don't mind that much, or I'll get in the mood to go for a long run on the treadmill, but other than that I don't spend more than 10-15 minutes on there. I normally do my best when I switch back and forth between machines- 10 minutes on treadmill, 10 on eliptical, 10 on stairclimber, etc. I have gotten great results from that, even losing over 30 pounds. Stick to what you like is my advice, because that's the only way you will keep it up.

I hated running too.... until I got better at it. Now I love it.... it's easy to just lose myself & have a complete mental re-set when I'm running..... I wouldn't do any other kind of cardio now... 289)_9

But, it did take a good 3 months or so before I really liked it.....

Running will be the most bang for your buck in terms of time spent doing cardio. But if you hate it, the time you spend will just get shorter and shorter. if you find something you really love (biking, swimming, dancing) that may not burn as many calories - so what?! It can't be about the quick fix. KWIM?

But like MWM said, give it some time. If you don't like it in a few months try something else. Or maybe take it outside. Treadmill running can be really boring.

I dont exactly HATE running, but it is too rough on my body, my knees end up hurting after about 10 min. Like Tiff said, switching it up, going on the treadmill for 10, elliptical for 10, and then bike for 10, seems to really get results!! (of course you can make the time on each machine longer if u want).

I started seriously running almost 3 years ago, and I still have a love/hate relationship with it. I started exclusively to help me drop weight. In years past, I'd done all sorts of different cardio - kickboxing, step aerobics, regular aerobics, stair machines, etc. I always hated running. But, like Jess mentioned, it can give you the most bang for your buck in terms of calorie burning.

I think, for me, the monotony of the actual movement is what I "hate" about running. But, I guess I don't hate it all that much, because I've stuck with my running routine of 4 times a week for the past 3 years. I'll just never really get into it any more than just my regular, routine weekly cardio workout.

I've never liked to run and now that my breasts are much much bigger, I cant run even if I wanted to.

I prefer fast pace walking, bicycle, elliptical :)
