The low down on mineral makeupI've done some "homework" on mineral makeup and here's what I discovered......
The "claims" by these mineral makeup companies such as Bare escentuals, Jane Iredale, Glo mineral etc etc that the mineral makeup is "healing" to the skin is just that...a claim. No makeup out there "heals" the skin. It's not therapeutic. Basically, with the mineral makeup, the reason why it gets so many raves is that it doesnt clog the pores and it provides great coverage. Also, it has less ingredients in it so therefore, less chance of a reaction to people with sensitive skin. Some key ingredients that irritate or can potentially irritate the skin are artifical fragrances, tints and preservatives.
Because the mineral makeup particles are large, they do not go into the pores thus it's impossible for them to be therapeutic. They are an alternative though to people who have irritations with other makeuplines though. These mineral lines are "benign" meaning they wont harm the skin but they arent therapeutic to it. Almost like a benign tumor. It's not cancer but it's not healing to you to have it.
So, bottom line...if you are using non mineral makeup and have no problems with it, dont throw it out to go and spend MORE money on mineral makeup. Save your money.
Keep your skin healthy by drinking lots of water, avoiding prolonged sun exposure, using SPF, cleansing, moisturizing.

Re: The low down on mineral makeupI agree with what you've said, but I bought Bare Esseuntials Rare Minerals nighttime treatment and it reduces redness and dries out zits. Not sure whats in it, but it definately treats.

Alot of "Redness" reduction is attributed to the fact that people are no longer using the makeup that has the "irritants" in it. Your face or whoever is using it is going back to how their face was prior to using it. KWIM?? If redness is a result of rosacea for example and the capillaries are "broken", the laser without a doubt is the most effective way to treat it versus creams, makeup etc etc. So, mineral makeup such as the revival from Bare Escentuals can be comforting topeople allergic to irritants such as fragrance or tints or preservatives.

I've never heard them claim to be "healing," just less damaging, which is exactly what you posted.

I heard them say that on the infomercial for sheer cover, but i don't recall what they said on the BE infomercial, I don't really care for any of the lines that have bismuth in them like BE and jane iredale does have it as well (unless they have reformulated since I used it and had the ingredients pamphlet) zinc has antibacterial properties, for example they have the antibacterial ointments with zinc in them, etc.
but the mineral makeup for me, well the only difference I saw was that my face was a lot more shiny looking, no matter which brand I used. my personal opinion about why they make finishing powders for them is because they are more shiny by nature, and need that powder to cut down the shine. its unfortunate because I love the concept and would love for them to work for me, but they just don't.
