So I stopped by the MAC counter today........

I know, I know, money's tight & I shouldn't have......but I haven't bought anything (aside from bare minerals, which was more of a necessity than a fun item) in soooo long now.

So everytime I go by I honestly don't see any eye shadows that I feel I need...........I have a very good & wide variety built up. So I decided to take a look at some fluidlines. I ended up coming home with graphic brown & rich ground. Rich ground looks especially pretty, can't wait to wear it!!

I went to one at Nordstrom, so didn't get to look at pigments, I still don't have any of those.............has anyone tried them? If you have what do you recommend??

I love their eyeshadows and brushes and liquidlast! their fluidlines are really nice too!

let me know what you think of the ones you got today, i am always looking for a rich chocolate brown liner. :ibh:

sorry to say I haven't tried the pigments, I usually prefer shadow because its less messy, sticks to my brush better and I tend to prefer a more subtle shine than their pigments offer. plus our Nordstrom's doesn't carry them either. there are lots of places of ebay though were you can buy a sample pack, you pick like 6 shades and get 1/4 tsp samples for under $15 usually.

If the pigments are the ones in the tubs, yes I have. I've used the blue/silvery one, gold one and mauve(red) one before. They're ok but the colors didnt really "suit" me. I'm sure they have other colors though.
Right now I'm hooked on Bobbi Brown so I'm obsessing over their colors.

yes, with the screw on lids. they have lots of colors, but they are mostly iridescent looking ones.

I went to the bobbie brown counter to see if I could find a chocolate brown eyeshadow. I couldn't find one that had the right tones for what I wanted, but I did do a test between the MAC and BB shadows, the mac ones seemed to have more pigment and stayed on my hand longer when i tried to rub them off.

I like BB face powder colors, many of them have a more yellow base and I think its more flattering on me than some I've seen that are super pink.
I don't like any of mac's powders, all of them look too pink to me, or just look sort of orange on me.

I didn't care for the selection I saw of the BB eyeshadows though, I like somewhat neutral colors but it seemed like they were all super neutral? a lot of them looked sort of gray, like they had ashy undertones? now I am wondering if they just didn't have a good lighting or maybe they were missing some colors? some people prefer BB's gel eyeliners over mac's. I haven't tried them though so I could really Say What I think of them. :ibh:

thanks for sharing girls!

I tried out rich ground today & I like it a lot, I paired it with mulch & it goes really well together, it's a shimmery brown & lighter than the dipdown brown I have.

Someone was just telling me on another forum that the MAC pigments have a lot more color than the eyeshadows, so then I don't know if that's really what I want, cuz I like playing with a wide variety of colors, but I also like to keep it somehwat subtle, KWIM?

I have never tried Bobby Brown or even seen their counter before. But I agree, so many face makeups are way too pink for me, I prefer a more yellow based color for my skin tone. I do have some pink undertones, but yellow really evens me out. I have never tried face makeup from MAC though.

thanks for the review! yeah unfortunately all the mac powders looked yellow on me. they gave me a sample of their new mineralize skin finish, or something or other LOL, I dunno its a liquid foundation (which i don't ever wear liquids) and it had sparklie stuff in it. I did NOT like it at all. it was yellow though LOL. :ibh:

the pigments can be pretty glittery or shiny, you can do them very light but they have much more sheen than the standard eyeshadows by mac (not counting the frost ones) my fave eyeshadow is antiqued. I love that color, I wear that and use a darker brown that i just got by a company called Ben nye. they make theatrical makeup, and a lot of makeup artists seem to love their stuff I've read.

I had been trying like crazy to track down his stuff to see in person, and when I was in Seattle I stopped at a costume shop and picked out a chocolate brown eyeshadow, its very pigmented and so far wears just like mac's do. it was only $6 for a pan 2 times the size of mac's. I got a gold eyeshadow that has a very subtle sheen, it can go on light or you can build it up. and I finally got a loose powder he makes, the color is called "banana" and its called belle visage luxury powder. wow! I love this stuff.

I wear sunscreen so my face gets pretty oily, I've tried a ton of different powders to set the sunscreen, and after a few hours they all look like an oil slick. not this stuff, I only had to blot 2 times today. that is a miracle for me. anyway, the ladies on makeupalley loved it, i was skeptical but i have to say I agree that its the best powder I've used for shine reduction. its not super yellow, but more yellow and skin tone color mixed.

anyway I know the mineral makeup is working great for you, I just thought I'd mention his stuff anyway though because its great and its so cheap! I am really impressed by it. he does make a compact version of it, i haven't come across it yet though. I paid $7 for 1.5 ounces of powder. there isn't any oil in it or fragrance either. the gold eyeshadow was from his "pearl sheen" collection, it was like $7.

he also had some really cool shadows called "lumiere". they looked similar to macs pigments in the way that they reflect light and can be very bold if needed to be. they didn't have the color I wanted, (iced gold) so I didn't get any, but the texture was like silk. the ladies on makeupalley said it was as good as mac or some said it was better LOL. mac has much more color selection though. anyway, you may want to check out his stuff if you get the chance. :ibh:

wow, that stuff sounds great, is it good for acne prone skin though? And can you buy it online at all? I have no idea where you'd go to buy that sort of stuff...

I used the graphic brown today. In the pot it is very shimmery, but when I put it on it doesn't look much different from my dipdown brown which is not shimmery at all...........

thanks for the report! well some people on makeupalley felt it was great for their oily skin, and i think 2 said it broke them out, so i think its really individual. you can buy it online, they have it on ebay, and they sell it on amazon as well, here are some links so that you can check it out if you want. oh, if you call the company you can order a catalog, I called and i got one on Saturday when I called on Thursday! they are based in so cal like you are. its nice because they are really inexpensive so if something doesn't work its not too bad. give me a bit and i'll post the ingredients for you, you can see if it would be compatible for ya, maybe it would be a good finishing powder? its fairly translucent. it goes on lighter than it looks.

on ebay, type this in the search box: ben nye visage
the link is so long when i try to post it, it distorts the page.
and on amazon:

I think the powder would work good for a finishing powder, I do find it works a lot better to "set" my face though when I have used sunscreen underneath. it also seems to have more coverage that way. its a golden yellow color.

ingredients: talc, zinc stearate, corn starch, rice starch, iron oxides (color), diazoludinyl urea, propylparaben, methylparaben.

the number if you want to call for a catalog is (310) 839-1984
www.bennyemakeup.com

also, there are some other theatrical brands like kryolan or mehron that you may want to look in to. I've read good stuff about them as well. ben nye makes 40 matte eye colors, 22 shades of the lumiere, and 14 shades of the pearl seen shadows. I have one matte and one pearl sheen. have fun! LOL
