recommendations for in home exercise techniquesI would like to start exercising in my house. the problem is, I saw there are so many different techniques and I don't know what is best for me. I would like to do cardio exercise and toning.
I looked on target.com and I see they have all these steps, balance trainer, balance board, balance disc, weight balls, exercise balls, balance balls lol. I have no idea what works and what is a gimmick.
which of these things is for cardio? I think i will get the balance ball for toning but that means I need a good tape to go with it and some kind of cardio thing. These balance disc things look pretty cool but is that for cardio or muscle toning?
What do you guys recommend for cardio? Do you have a good beginners recommendation DVD for both of these things that I can do in m house?
Any help is greatly appreciated

I used to use the firm and core. I liked them both a lot. But with every exercise eventually I got bored. Now I am going to the gym a lot but occasionally I will do the core workout. Core is not cardio but it is a great whole body workout that really tones you.
I liked them both a lot and neither one is a gimmick that promises results that are impossible.

I am pretty sure you can get both at Target now too

When im in the habit of working out (im not right now), i like doing kick boxing, and dance type workout videos. I have Turbo Jam, which i LOVE!! You can only get it online (ebay, or their website). As far as toning goes, if you get the Turbo Jam dvds there is a toning workout on their, and you use 3-5lb dumbbells.
Sorry im not of much help, good luck with your search at target, im sure they will have some good cardio videos!

This is by far the best workout I've ever had. It's cardio, but also strength, core, and balance. You can buy the dome and the tapes on this site. I don't have the tapes as I take the class at my gym, but I've heard the Rob Glick on is good.

It depends a lot on what YOU enjoy, I have lots of small home equipment & use all of it, I now also own a spin bike & am planning to get a stott pilates reformer too.
For toning you definitely need to invest in free weights & ankle weights. For cardio you could just walk or bike if you enjoy that. I really like rebounding & spinning & walking for cardio. I also highly recommend stott pilates, both the matwork series & the stability ball series (of course you need a stability ball for this) & the BOSU series is good too, but then you need a BOSU...........

thanks for all of your help. everything that has been mentioned sound interesting to me so I guess I will have to try a few things and see how it goes. That bosu thing looks pretty cool but it looks like there is a lot of eduipment to choose from and I don't know exactly what i need. I have a feeling this is going to be an issue with whatever I try. Sounds like investing in some light weights and a balance ball may be the simplest way to get started :)

You should only NEED the BOSU dome. Everything else is optional. If you find a tape uses a particular item, you can always get it later or improvise. (like an onion instead of the small ball)
I've seen the dome at Target too. It's like $120 I think.

As far as videos...I get bored with them also...I think MOST do!!! So if you have ComCast in your area...or "On Demand" tv...don't forget that there is a Sports and Fitness section for workouts!!! I have been using this for awhile instead of buying new DVD's to work out to! They keep them pretty much up to date...like Turbo Jam is on there right now...many choices!
As far as equipment...free weights is always a great idea. And the "ball" is great for core work.
