Ocean mist & Every day mineralsI've seen a lot of good threads about these two companies. I have been using bare minerals for several weeks now & like it, but decided to give these other two companies a try, so I just ordered free samples from both of them.
In bare minerals I wear the light foundation, summer bisque for my concealer, warmth as my blush, & the mineral veil.
From ocean mist I chose: golden fairest, golden fair, & golden light foundations, elegant nude blush, lightly tinted mineral veil, & light concealer.
From everyday minerals I chose: fairly light, light winged butter, & golden medium in matte formulas, natural blush, & multi=tasking concealer.
I can't wait for them to get here!!

LOL! I think I choose the same shades you did pretty much from everyday minerals. they have a nice warm yellow tone to them, but not a fakey looking yellow. I really liked the colors, and I did like them better than BE for wearability, but I think I really need talc based stuff. the mineral ones tend to pool in my large pores and look shiney on my no matter which I use. I hope you like them! I haven't heard of ocean mist before. good luck!

I hope I like them too, I am starting to wonder if bare minerals is causing breakouts for me, so that's why I decided to give these others a try. It's hard to say, though, cuz I was breaking out bad before I started bare minerals, but it seems like it started to get better & then suddenly got worse........
for everyday minerals someone told me, sorry, can't remember who it was, that since I have oily skin I should get two of the same foundation, one in matte & one in intensive, cuz intensive has more coverage, & then just mix them together.
ocean mist doesn't seem to have different formulas, which worries me, cuz my skin is super oily, but the bare minerals handles my oily "pretty" well (I still have to use the oil blotting sheets quite often, but the bare minerals "hides" the oil really well), so maybe it will work out........

I've been breaking out awful lately, I am pretty sure it was due to taking a very low dose of DHEA though. I haven't had any in over a month, but I am still breaking out, my face, my back, my chest, blech.
I just have the matte kind from them. some people develop an
issue with the bismuth in the BE, so maybe since everyday minerals doesn't have that it will work for you (I assume the ocean one doesn't have it either?) anyway even when I didn't break out, I do have sensitive skin and its always oily, so I can relate LOL.
I've only used the ben nye powder a few times so far so I cant say if it makes me break out more or not, I was just shocked it absorbed the oil so well and it didn't dry my skin out either.
I did use another powder over it for heavier coverage, the ben nye is really translucent. but when I've used that other powder before, I still got super oily, so I know it was the ben nye that helped. I guess when it comes to skincare/makeup, you just have to keep looking until you find something that works for you. sometimes it sure is a pain though LOL! :ibh: at least picking eye products is relatively fun and easy LOL.

that's for sure, I think that's why I love playing with eye makeup so much, LOL! That & the fact that I have such big eyes & have been complimented on them for as long as I can remember!

yep, you have puuuurty eyes! and also most times our eyes tolerate new products easier, which makes it more fun than worrying if we will break out or turn into an oilslick from a new product LOL.

awwww, thank you.
I do, however, have a major allergy to the red dyes in MAC eye makeup. I was allergic to pink venus, sketch, beautymarked, & the power point liner bordeaux. I had to return all of them. The only one I am not allergic to is yogurt, a very pale pastel pink. But those burgungy shades look soooo good on me, I was sooo bummed. And pink venus is sooooo pretty. But it was a really severe reaction I had. Now I just stay away from anything they have with any red dye in it. I was just looking at fluidlines the other day & the gal was trying to sell me macroviolet. I was like, oh no, not that one!!! She looked at me kinda oddly though, LOL!

eeek! really? yikes that stinks!
I think you've tried a lot more of their stuff than I have, once I find a few shades I like I tend to just stick to those. good thing you were able to take them back. I wonder if its the mac dye or just any red dye? one would think they just use the same sort of dyes/colors, but I haven't really looked into it myself. I have been lucky to not have any reactions to eye products so far, except maybelline great lash. that stuff makes me tear up everywhere, burns my eyes and makes them swell. same thing happened to my SIL. don't know what's in it that gives us that reaction.

only to MAC I believe, I've worn pinks in other brands & been fine.
At one time I found a website that was bashing cosmetic companies for using bad stuff in their makeup. I looked up MAC & the only bad thing they had to say (they said a lot of stuff on most companies) about MAC was that they use a red dye that is not FDA approved. And I actually thought to myself "well it's not as if you're eating it............" & thought nothing more of it, then later on I had that problem & remembered what I had read.........not really sure if that's the problem or not........my stepdaughter uses all shades of MAC & has zero problems with it. But when I was returning some of them (exchanging actually) the lady said "oh you must be allergic to the red dye, we see that from time to time" so I know I'm not completely alone.

ok, my ocean mist samples arrived today..........my brushes are still wet from cleaning them after doing my makeup this morning.......I'll probably test out the shades later today & try to wear the best match tomorrow & see how I like it & how it lasts, etc. Hopefully everyday minerals will arrive on Monday & hopefully I'll be able to decide between the two.

wow, thats so odd, but I guess somewhat comforting to know others have the same reaction? (or maybe not comforting? LOL)
well cool! glad you got those in today. the everyday minerals came super fast for me, like 4 days. hopefully yours will get here soon. :sprt6%:

well unfortunately all 3 of the samples are too dark for me, & it's the three lightest shades they have for my skin tone............hopefully I'll have better luck with the everyday minerals.
for anyone who is interested, ocean mist is very good, though. I like it a lot & it has lasted well all day today.

oh cool!! so glad you liked it. its a lot less shiny than BE isn't it?
LOL that's funny, that color was a pretty good match for me as well.

yeah, it's less shiny, but it lasts all day & looks great. I can't wait to try out the finishing powder, cuz it isn't offered in the free samples, but when I emailed she told me which one is best for oily skin & that's the one I chose.

A little O/T, but I cannot wear Maybelliene eyeshadows...the skin on my eyelids burns and peels (in big pieces, EW) when I do! Took me a while to figure it out, but it sucks. After I stopped using it I had no other problems, and so far no other brand ever caused a reaction.
I picked up a brand of mineral make up from Sallys Beauty Supply called Savvy, and so far I like it pretty well...much cheaper than BE. It does contain bismuth, however. It has a "built in" veil, so it's one less step, which is nice. I used the Bisque concealer with the BE, so I use that concealer brush with the Savvy foundation and it covers nicely.

wow, that stinks! good thing you figured it out! :O(
I have never really had a good maybelline or covergirl product. and now that I've started using MAC eye products I don't think I'll ever use the drugstore eyeshadows/eyeliners again, MAC or the ben nye stuff I use lasts so much longer, and and looks the same when I put it on as when I take it off. I was really surpised and impressed.
but then poor fishchick is allergic to some of MAC's stuff, so I guess you never really know how you'll react to products unless you use them first. :O(

wow, that's crazy, how scary! I can't recall if I ever tried maybelline eyeshadows or not. I was introduced to department store eyeshadows at the age of 20 or so & have never bought a drugstore brand of eyeshadow since!

your pics wouldn't load for me, poo! my stupid dial up. I'll have to try again later and see if they load, sometimes they load if I try again.
I'm really glad you like it! I was a bit worried when you had said you were going to start the bare minerals, thats why I had brought up the bismuth issue and recommended the other companies. I've seen a lot of ladies end up getting reactions to the bismuth, and when you already are having acne issues that is not what you need. :o(
