Hmmm....not sure if face ones are different to anywhere else on the body to remove, but my PS removed 4 off my back. Three were to be checked (all came back ok) and one was on the back of my neck that I hated.

Figured he was a PS so he would do the best job compared to the local GP. Cant even see a scar AT ALL!

WHat about having it burnt off with that liquid nitrogen? Maybe ask your GP and see if that wont scar...

Good luck!

My DH had a small raised one removed from his face about 2 years ago. It left a little red indentation on his face, but IMO it looks better then the mole. Its really not noticeable unless you look up close. If it doesnt look suspicious then they can probally shave it off, but if the doctor thinks it needs to be tested then I think it has to be cut out like my DH's was.

He just had to rub a little ointment on it for a couple of days and that was it.

Bec, I just went into the dermo the other day about a mole on my face. (right under my eye) anyway he said he could shave it off, but it could possibly come back since there would still be the other half below the skin. He said if I wanted the whole thing removed it would leave a small scar and I should see a ps since it's right under my eye.

Hope that helps a bit.

I had one on the left side of my neck. It bugged me and my seat belt strap rubbed it constantly. My PS removed it for me during one of my BA post op visits. It healed perfectly and left no mark.

I had 2 removed on the top of my right breast near my cleavage. One left a small mark and the other is perfect. My Dermatologist removed those for me. They bugged me and I would always catch them with my fingernail and it would be OUCHIE!

A little neosporin and a teeny ban d aid for a couple days. Super easy and takes less than 15 minutes total at the doctor's office.

My mom has had several removed from her body/face. She went to a plastic surgeon wayyy back in the 70's/80's.. I have never really noticed any scars on her face. So I imagine that nowadays they can do really good jobs of removing moles.

i had one removed from my back a year ago. It healed really well, no scar. I had to have it scraped for insurance purposes, they send it for a biopsy so you don't have to pay anything. Of course on my face I would opt for laser removal if I didn't need a biopsy. It is never a bad idea to do a biopsy on a raised mole I don't think. I would speak with a dermatologist, they can tell you if they would recommend a biopsy and the best method of removal.

AH! I'm glad I came over here!
Becs, I'm recovering from 3 I just had my PS remove for me.
I elect to have them shaved down, no excision, because they have been checked by a dermatologist as benign, and an excision would leave a worse scar than the mole to begin with. I notice as I age the moles on my face are raising and getting larger. I hate them. Although no one else seems to see them I know they are there and my eyes constantly go to them in the mirror, in pictures. Then, a week ago, one of them sprouted a gray hair.

I just had it done Wed., so all three are inflamed and red on my face. I look like an overused hooker.

But I've had a couple other ones done before and when all that goes away, there are no moles to be found and the skin returns to its lovely healthy state.

As for the ones on my back, I don't care. We know they aren't cancer now, get them outta there (they're always "dysplastic") and with my long hair no one will ever see.

I had a mole removed from my left outer thigh shortly after liipo. My ps would of removed it while I was asleep for the lipo but I didnt sign a consent for mole removal.

Anyways, it looked suspicious but it turned out to be a blue nevus and it healed nicely :)

I'm sharing with You Different types of Mole Surgery,It's Recover Time,Risk of this Surgery and It's Cost.
-----------------------------------------------

What Are The Different Methods Of Mole Removal Surgery?

Depending on the mole, there are a few different procedures that can be done.

Excision Method with Stitches: This method is more typically used for moles that are potentially cancerous. A medical blade is used to remove the mole and the surrounding skin as well as the underlying in the shape of an oval. The size surrounding the mole that will be cut out depends on the concern of the surgeon for the mole being removed. Stitches are then received on the upper surface of the skin, which will need to be removed later, or to the underlying tissue which will dissolve and will not need to be removed.

Cauterization: Using a cautery tool, the mole is burned away. No stitches are required as the mole has been burn-sutured.

Shaving Method: This method is most commonly used for protruding moles. It is not the method of choice for atypical moles as it may leave mole cells beneath the skin, which in turn can cause the mole to grow back. The mole is lifted and removed with the scalpel, leaving the area flush with the surrounding skin. Next, an electrical instrument is used to cauterize or burn the area to stop bleeding. Afterwards, a topical antibiotic is applied to the wound to reduce the risk of infection. Last, a bandage is placed on the wound.

   3. How Long Does It Take To Recover?

The amount of pain and discomfort associated with the healing process of mole removal surgery varies depending on the type performed. The area should be cleaned twice a day with water or diluted hydrogen peroxide followed by applying an antibiotic ointment that does not contain neomycin. (many people develop a rash due to being allergic to this product) The wound should be kept covered until healed. A scab might develop during this time which should heal within a week or two. Any pain or discomfort after surgery should be mild and can be offset with over the counter pain medications.

4. What are the risks?

Infection: If precautions are taken in the doctors office this risk is minimal, however, infection can occur if the wound is not cared for correctly at home after the surgery.

Scars: A very common after-effect of surgical mole removal is scarring. These scars can range from just a line, to an oval shape depending on the type of method used and the amount of skin and tissue removed. Scars will fade somewhat over time but for quicker results skin resurfacing or other scar procedures can be undergone.

  5. How much does mole removal surgery cost?

The fees for surgically removing a mole vary according to the doctor, mole size, method used, geographical location, etc. but typically range from $125-$150. These prices are non inclusive of anesthesia, operating room facility or any other associated costs. Most medical insurance providers do not cover mole removal as it is classified under the cosmetic surgery category. Financing options are sometimes available for mole removal surgery.
