I came across this book.

Good in Bed (Paperback) by Jennifer Weiner

It seems like an easy, light-hearted read. It's not a literary award winner, but it may be a good starter book. What do you guys think? Any other book nominations? The author also wrote In Her Shoes.

Review:
It is temping at first but unwise to assume Candace Shapiro is yet another Bridget Jones. Feisty, funny and less self-hating than her predecessor, Cannie is a 28-year-old Philadelphia Examiner reporter preoccupied with her weight and men, but able to see the humor in even the most unpleasant of life's broadsides. Even she is floored, however, when she reads "Good in Bed," a new women's magazine column penned by her ex-boyfriend, pothead grad student Bruce Guberman. Three months earlier, Cannie suggested they take a break apparently, Bruce thought they were through and set about making such proclamations as, "Loving a larger woman is an act of courage in our world." Devastated by this public humiliation, Cannie takes comfort in tequila and her beloved dog, Nifkin. Bruce has let her down like another man in her life: Cannie's sadistic, plastic surgeon father emotionally abused her as a young girl, and eventually abandoned his wife and family, leaving no forwarding address. Cannie's siblings suffer, especially the youngest, Lucy, who has tried everything from phone sex to striptease. Their tough-as-nails mother managed to find love again with a woman, Tanya, the gravel-voiced owner of a two-ton loom. Somehow, Cannie stays strong for family and friends, joining a weight-loss group, selling her screenplay and gaining the maturity to ask for help when she faces something bigger than her fears. Weiner's witty, original, fast-moving debut features a lovable heroine, a solid cast, snappy dialogue and a poignant take on life's priorities.

The book sounds good. I read your earlier post about the book club idea and have been giving it some thought. I would like to be in a book club here in my community but haven't found a group - and have been concerned about the time, commitment, etc. Somehow I feel I should be living in the real world and not be so involved with the "virtual" forum community. But, I must say, the women here are all great and I think the conversation on here is interesting. So, maybe I should give it a try! I'll keep watching to see how it goes. Thanks for your efforts in organizing this.

Yay- I'm glad you guys are into it. Unless we get other suggestions, maybe we could try to start this book around the 15th??? Give everybody time to go out and get the book. I have to read a lot/do research for work so I thought a funny- light book would be fun to read. :sprt6%:

Oh yayyy, I've already read it so I'm done with this assignment!!! 289)_9 It's good! I'll pull it out and refamiliarize myself with it so I'm ready to talk abut it....

And btw, I wouldn't change the book selection because a few people have already read it...it might be impossible to find a book that hasn't been read by someone...

I just started listening to My Sisters Keeper and I know I will have it done by Sunday, if not tomorrow! I'd listen to it now but I HAVE to get some sleep tonight and it is so dang good I wouldn't turn it off!!
